If mounting directly to a boat transom: Measure from the top of the transom down to the bottom of the hull or keel (lowest point). Measure the area of the transom directly where the engine will be mounted. See diagram below.
If using an auxiliary mounting bracket: With the bracket in the down position, measure from the top of the bracket's mounting surface down to the bottom of the hull or keel (where engine is to be mounted). Tip: For most auxiliary applications, it is possible to use a longer shaft length than what is called for, provided there is sufficient clearance when the engine is in the up position. This can be especially useful in heavy seas.
If measuring an existing outboard: Measure from the inside top of mounting bracket down to anti-cavitation plate above propeller (this is the largest plate/fin directly above the propeller). See diagram below.
|Height Measurement:||Recommended Shaft Length:|
|14” – 17.25”||15” Shaft (Short)|
|17.25” – 19.5”||Varies by application – email us|
|19.5” – 22.5”||20” Shaft (Long)|
|22.5” – 27”||25” Shaft (Extra-Long)|
NO! Four-stroke Suzuki outboards are NOT filled with oil from the factory. You must add oil to the crankcase prior to use.
Four-stroke Suzuki outboards use 10W-30 or 10W-40 four-stroke motor oil. We recommend a FC-W® rated NMMA (marine) certified four-stroke engine oil when available (10W-30 or 10W-40).

|4hp||24 fl oz. (700 mL)|
|6hp||24 fl oz. (700 mL)|
|8hp||27 fl oz. (800 mL)|
|9.9hp (Lightweight Series - DF9.9A models)||27 fl oz. (800 mL)|
|9.9hp (Power Tilt Series - DF9.9T models)||33.8 fl oz. (1000 mL)|

|25hp||51 fl oz. (1500 mL)|
Use of synthetic oil is not recommended in 4-stroke outboard engines. Outboards use raw water cooling systems and use of a synthetic oil may prevent the engine from reaching sufficient operating temperature.
NOTE: With four-stroke outboards, oil is added directly to the engine crankcase. Four-stroke outboards use straight gasoline in the fuel tank (no oil mix). See your Owner's Manual for detailed information on how to fill and change engine oil.
Yes. If necessary, your outboard can be laid on its side but it must be laid on the proper side. Your outboard includes a picture (decal) on the engine itself indicating which direction the engine can be laid. Please see Owner's Manual for additional information on transporting and storage of your outboard.
Yes. The lower unit gear oil is pre-filled by the factory, however, you should check to ensure proper level before first use. To replace/add lower unit oil we recommend any SAE 80 or 90 weight oil. For additional information, see your Owner's Manual.
The minimum octane rating that you should use is 87, however, Suzuki recommends using gasoline with an octane rating of 89 or higher when possible. We also recommend adding a fuel stabilizer, especially when using gasoline containing ethanol.
Yes - 20hp and below. New electric start Suzuki outboards (20hp and below) that are tiller operated also have the standard manual thru-cowling pull cord. You do not have to remove the cowling. Simply pull the cord already located on the engine. No more missed boating trips due to a dead battery. All electric start models also feature a 12V charging system as standard pre-installed equipment so engines can be manually crank started to recharge a dead or weak battery.
All tiller operated electric start model outboards 20hp and below feature a 12V charging system pre-installed and a back-up manual rope start through the cowling (just like on manual start models) as standard equipment. Electric start models also include pre-installed positive/negative battery leads.
A "remote control" outboard is one that is equipped with remote throttle, shift and steering controls. This allows the user to operate the outboard from a remote location in relation to the engine (throttle/shift and/or steering).
Yes. Suzuki utilizes a unique four-part system to fight the effects of saltwater corrosion, beginning with the use of high-grade aluminum alloy for metal castings. A thorough chemical cleaning process prepares the casting ensuring superior adhesion of surface coatings.
The parts are then submerged in an electrified bath of chromium oxide. The bath changes the make-up of the casting's surface and creates an invisible barrier that becomes integrated as part of the casting.
Finally, an extremely hard and resilient epoxy resin primer is baked on, and a top coat of Melamine resin marine grade paint is applied to the castings. Suzuki's casting and finishing process protects the outboard and effectively seals out saltwater.
Suzuki's anti-corrosion system does not stop at casting construction and finishing. All Suzuki outboards feature sacrificial zinc anodes strategically placed internally and externally. These replaceable anodes fight corrosion and preserve overall engine integrity. Additionally, the use of specialized marine-grade stainless steel and Dacromate coated hardware for key components ensure superior corrosion protection in even the harshest environments.
The break-in procedure is included in your Owner's Manual. Correct operation during the break-in period will prolong the life of your new outboard and will ensure optimum performance. Break-in consists of maintaining lower RPM levels and varying the RPM's for the first 10 hours of use. Break-in should be done under a load (on your boat, not at home in a container of water).
Suzuki outboards include a 3 year mfg. warranty. Warranty service is available through any Suzuki Marine service centers located throughout the U.S. and Canada. If you need help locating a service center in your area, please email us and include your zip code. These service centers can also provide service after the warranty period.
Engine oil must be added prior to use. The engine oil is drained by the factory prior to shipping. When your new outboard arrives, you simply add engine oil (amount and type are shown on page 1 of manual). The lower unit gear lube is pre-filled from the factory. No assembly is required. Even the propeller is pre-installed for your convenience.
If you have purchase an electric start model, your outboard will include battery leads pre-installed from the factory (battery not included). You simply connect the battery leads to your battery.
Read the Owner's Manual carefully prior to operation. The owner's manual contains important information regarding the break-in period, safety and proper use of your outboard engine.

Our outboards are very well packaged from the factory and very rarely receive damage during transit. Less than 2% of our outboards receive damage during transit. All outboards are fully insured. If your outboard has received severe damage (engine is visibly exposed from packaging) refuse the package and contact us immediately. If your engine has received minor damage (such as a crack in cowling or other minor damage) you may accept shipment (if you wish) and contact us immediately to receive a replacement of the damaged part and/or file a claim with the carrier. Retain all packaging even if damaged.
IMPORTANT: If the box exterior appears to be damaged, make note of box condition when signing for the package. It is not uncommon for a box to have some exterior damage. This is normal. However, making a note of box condition will allow us to file a damage claim if hidden damage is found within 48 hours of receipt.
No. Sorry, we are only able to ship inside the United States (except Hawaii) per manufacturer guidelines. Sorry, no exceptions.

Yes. All orders that are picked up at our location or shipped inside TN are subject to 9.75% sales tax.
No. Unfortunately, we do not accept trade-ins outside of our own local market. Due to shipping costs, long distance trades prove to be cost prohibitive. Selling your engine outright will generally yield higher returns and there is no wasted shipping cost.
No. We sell only brand new current model Suzuki outboards. On rare occasion we may have a non-current during a model year change, if this was the case, a sale would be clearly posted on our home page.
